Monthly Men's Breakfast
Second Saturday of each month, Garrett Hall, Starts at 7:00 AM - Finished by 9:00 AM
November 10, 2007, Speaker: Mike Hughes, Topic: Savoonga, Alaska
Mike Hughes shared with the congregation that the Presbyterian Church in Savoonga
needed a new boiler to heat their building. Temperatures in winter are commonly
below zero so the loss of a heat source is life threatening. This small town,
with a population of less than 700, sits on St. Lawrence Island in the Bearing
Sea and is closer to Russia than the Alaskan mainland.
With photos and stories, Mike will share about our church's work in Savoonga and his
visit last April. While eating a breakfast of waffles, learn about this mission
field in the United States.
December 8, 2007, Speaker: Krister Persing, Topic: Filming and Producing The Enemy God?
Wabasher Krister Persing, of Spokane, WA, is an award-winning photojournalist
and videographer working freelance for major networks such as ABC, CBS, NBC,
CNN, ESPN, and the History Channel. Krister recently completed filming, and is
now producing, the movie The Enemy God? which tells the story of
violent Amazonian shamen who miraculously discover that God is in fact their
friend, and not their enemy.
January 12, 2008, Speaker: Dennis Carlson, Topic: Part 1: The LDS Faith
It has happened to us all. The doorbell rings and outside we find some very
friendly young men in pressed white shirts ready to talk about the Church of
Jesus Christ of Later Day Saints. What they have to share doesn't seem so
different than what we already believe but we have been told that many beliefs
of the Mormon faith are incorrect. What do we say?
Dennis Carlson will give a presentation on how the beliefs and practices of the Mormon
faith differ from Christianity. Dennis will also speak about the credibility of
the founders of this religious movement.
This talk is the first of a two part series on the LDS and Jehovah's Witness faiths.
February 9, 2008, Speaker: Dennis Carlson, Part 2: The Jehovah's Witness Faith
The
doorbell rings again and outside are two middle aged women offering us a free
copy of The Watchtower and hoping to talk about the Jehovah's Witness
faith. What they have to share doesn't seem so different than what we already
believe but we have been told that many beliefs of the Jehovah's Witness faith
are incorrect. What do we say?
Dennis Carlson will give a presentation on how the beliefs and practices of the
Jehovah's Witness faith differ from Christianity. Dennis will also speak about
the credibility of the founders of this religious movement.
This talk is the second of a two part series on the LDS and Jehovah's Witness faiths.
March 8, 2008, Flapjacks and Flicks, 8:00 AM - 10:00 AM, Garrett Hall
This
is the breakfast where you can bring your kids. Because the women will be away
for the weekend you can bring your kids to eat stacks of pancakes (plain,
blueberry and chocolate chip.) This way the ankle biters get fed and you can
make sure the kitchen is still clean when your lady gets home. We will also
have punch, dessert and to make sure the kids don't run crazy, we will show the
movie Finding Nemo.
Oh, and this is free.
April 12, 2008, 7:00 AM, Garrett Hall
Kern
Hendricks will give a scientific overview of some important dates in science and
how they might relate to the Bible. Kern will speak about his investigations and
the findings that point to God.
