Youth Ministry FAQ
Who is the Youth Director?
Because you would not send your students off with just anyone...
My name is James Garner, I am not the "James Garner," my parents just thought it
was a good name, however some people do call me "Maverick." I have worked with
students for 10 years now and am just as energized as the day I began. I
graduated from Ouachita Baptist University in '02 with a B.A. in Theology and
from Dallas Theological Seminary in '04 with an M.A. in Bible. I am married to a
beautiful woman named Alyssa who is my best friend. I enjoy hiking, snow sports
and the outdoors in general.
I am a visitor, when is the best time to visit your youth group for the 1st time?
We recommend attending our Sunday morning Youth Service as an introduction to
our group. We will not make you stand up, point you out or embarrass you. We
will ask you to fill out an information card and introduce you to other people
who attend your school.
Can our students come to youth group even if our family doesn't go to church here?
Absolutely! There are no requirements for any of our programs. Simply take a
look at our schedule and choose the activities that you want your student to
check out.
Can I attend Ultimate Frisbee even if I don't go to church here?
Yes! And the same goes for any of our other programs.
How do students need to dress?
For the most part students can wear whatever they want - including Goth and Emo.
The only requirement is that girls do not wear revealing clothes.
Should my student bring anything?
A Bible is recommended. We have a set of Bibles, but we encourage students to
get in the habit of bringing their own.
Do I need to be a Christian to come?
No, come as you are. We are all in different places in our faith and we want you
to feel the freedom to journey at your own pace. In addition, we will not
coerce, force or pressure you to become a Christian.
Can I contact the youth director?
Yes. If you have a question about the church or basic program information please
call the church office at 253-939-1330. If you have a question directly related
to the youth group you can email me at james@wabashpres.com OR call my cell
253-886-7991.
